So I am on a jury on a criminal trial that may last through Friday. It may be done early, that would be good for work since I still have to keep on top of some serious deadlines. There are deadlines where I input in a shared data base and the system stops accepting data on a certain date and time.
The sad part, as much as I miss the kiddos in my program I am really enjoying the adult company during breaks and long lunches. These are not people I owe paperwork to or have to hold accountable or have meetings with. They are just a set of totally random people but I have people to talk to! Dang it, I have such a low social life that I am excited about serving on a jury just to have more adult interactions.
I am working on developing more social activities with our sangha (buddhist group) I tried a hike but it was short notice. On Monday when I was leading our meditation group we talked about some ideas for social plans. So I am working on it (not just a depressed person that doesn't try), it is just so hard at times. It is hard to get people out to do things.

Have you ever tried MeetUp.com?
I haven't, but am curious about it.
It seems like a low commitment way to 'try on' different groups of people
I mean this very seriously... God Bless You for working with children and the bureaucratic mess that calling entails these days.
You do make a difference.
I'd last all of about 2 seconds in that environment, before I'd be cussing like a sailor on the inside (hopefully), no matter the recipient's height!
mtnlaurel,
I've used meetup.com and would definitely recommend it. I've been friends now with 2 women from our original group for at least 3 years. That's typical, I think - you don't have to click with the entire group membership but more than likely there will be a few who could turn into good friends.
I third Meetup.com. I've used it in multiple countries and have been very happy with the people I've met.
thank you all, I am making a bit of progre$$ (broken key!), it i$ back to $chool today after deliberation and I can dre$$ up for the party! I need to get job hour under more control al$o and then have a life??

I love the Blinged Out $$$$ simple living po$t!
We have been missing a key from our laptop for eons --- the E, the most popular letter ever, why couldn't it have been the Z?
I have the key taped to the front of my laptop to fix 'one day'. I can still push the blank spot though.
Good luck with your computer.
I am very happy with the people I've met out in front of the grocery store where I hang out in my spare time, begging for loose change. I haven't made any friends yet, but I have met a lot of people. You might try that strategy.
I've done a lot of meetups - and a lot of volunteering. I've made friends doing both.

Zoe girl - I don't think it's sad that you are enjoying your time spent with a random group of grown-ups! I think it shows that you are really open to meeting new people. Enjoy, and I hope there are lots of friends in your future :)

update this weekend, I had a group phone call for my meditation contacts. It was guided meditation, talk and discussion just over the phone with some lovely people I have met in person. I spent Saturday with an errand (totaly Goodwill win!) and working around the house. Then today I ran an errand and spent the rest of the day working around the house. I spent some time with my son's girlfriend since he is working a super long day. We ate Dove bars and pet the cats. I contacted at least 3 local people to try and go for a coffee (tea actually but you know what I mean) and no one was available.
It was a good weekend but kinda lonely. I had a lot of fun last weekend at a half day seminar on technoloy in education. I will see if I can get my work hours under control this week, at least get my nails done and hair cut.
