Mr. Delivery Man just brought me my late-arriving Christmas present, weighing in at ~ 50 pounds. The packaging alone will probably heat the house for a day:

I've never had a cookbook that required a manual before. I wonder if I can make any of this stuff on the grill?

Well, a year or more of experimentation awaits!

Have fun with that! My brother (English lit professor who teaches food in fiction classes) and another professor (chemistry?) convinced their university to buy that set. They are going to fashion a curriculum around it. I need to go visit so I can take a look through it. :)

Btw, as soon as I read the subject line, I knew what this thread was about. If you're interested, there are a couple threads on egullet.org about people cooking their way through that.

Oooh, thanks for the pointer there! This package was a total surprise to me, a dear friend who is An Actual Chef sent it over.

Still, this will provide some extra motivation to setting up a home chemistry laboratory and homeschool :-)

Oh my, that looks incredible! Have you read On Food and Cooking? I plan to have my kids read it for science. I don't think I can afford this new one, unless I stumble upon it at Goodwill or something :)

Yes, I love that one, and we also used it for science class enrichment during some of The Homeschooling Years.

That is some excessive packaging! LOL You'd think there was something very breakable in there...

Enjoy! :)

Oooh -- I am seriously jealous! I heard an interview with him on KUOW last week, and was reading the reviews of it on Amazon the other day. It looks like a really amazing piece of work. I am trying to figure out how many days I have to take the bus to work to justify buying myself a set for Christmas.

I just got my copy of MC last week. A gift from an old friend who I think had to do a little extra wheeling and dealing for this one. Time to make mac and cheese as soon as I find him some Cuban cigars...

Wow what a nice friend. Have you gotten a chance to flip through it yet? What are you going to cook first? And more importantly, will you be the go to guy for our future food questions? ;)

Just looked this set up on Amazon. I think I'm in love! I think I'll have to put it a ways down the list though :(

Congrats on the newest kitchen addition.

All right. I'll be the one to admit it... what the heck are these books? I didn't see an author's name. Why are they so fabulous and worth the money? Some books are, you know, but I they've got to be REALLY worth it for me to spend the money. Clearly they are considered valuable given the careful nature of the delivery package, but "how come?" What gives?
