View Full Version : New kitty
A friend who volunteers at a local animal shelter told me about a really nice cat they had newly up for adoption. I'd been thinking about getting another cat, so went to look today.... and came home with it.
It's so sweet, and very attractive. It's half siamese, with orange markings and light blue eyes. A flame point. His fur is so soft too.
This is a picture from the internet. It's quite close to what he looks like. 'New Boy' is a bit more orange however. He's about a year old.

Congrats on your new kitty! A very pretty one too! Enjoy! Nothing like a warm, snuggly kitty to make you smile. :) And bless you for giving him a good home.

SUPER CUTE!!!!!!!!!!
He sounds beautiful! Congratulations on your new buddy!
We adopted a new kitty recently, too. She's about 6 years old and lost her home because a child developed allergies. She's perfect for our household, however, and she and my daughter are already wonderful friends. I've been thinking about volunteering at the shelter where she and our other cat came from.
Thanks, he's just a darling, sweet cat. He's already coming to me, letting me pick him up and play with him after just a couple of hours in the house.
From a distance he's already seen, and been seen by, the other 2 housecats. Not a hiss nor growl from anyone. He still needs to be kept separate however.
Now to figure out a good name... I've never been very good at that. Suggestions would be welcome.
That is a lovely cat. Now watch those ears. Are they white and pink? We have a big boy who is white and his ear tips get burned in the sun. Then they develop tumours (could be cancerous) and then they get cut off. So he has mouse ears and the vet got a lot of our cash. Maybe check with the vet.

Well, remembering my cat colour genetics, these flame points cats are not white cats. They've got pigment in a "pointed" patten. I wouldn't think that the same issues apply. The blue eyes in this pretty boy isn't the same genetic blue eyes thing as blue eyed white cats (who are often deaf.)
oh by the way cats rule!
well that would be good news indeed. White cans are so prone to this ear stuff.
There are lots of coyotes here, and hence no feral cats. So... this boy will be indoors only and his ears won't get sun-burned. And, yes, he is a siamese/orange tabby hybrid, not a 'regular' white cat - if there is such a thing as a 'regular' cat. ;)
The previous all siamese I got at about that same age was very close to white too in her body - now 4 years later her coat is a medium brown. Kind of shocking to see old pics of her to see how dark she has gotten. I expect 'new boy' to get darker too. His ears also are currently more orange than is shown in the picture above.
Now this is something I can get envious about! I love Siamese-type cats. And orange ones. Lucky you--both of you!

Sweet!
The first name that comes to mind is "Frank", as in Frank, ol' bue eyes, Sinatra. Being part Siamese he may be a "singer" too.
Any distinguishing personality traits?
He is a real beauty with wonderful temperment (thus far). His voice does not seem to be typical siamese however. But then I haven't heard his full range yet.
I was looking at him earlier and his coat reminded me of a rich vanilla ice cream color - one with egg yolks and vanilla and a dash of apricot in it. I was also thinking when I was a wee child, my absolutely favorite, dog-eared childrens book had a lion in it named Tawny (not the currently available chidren's book). So.. at the moment I'm leaning towards the name of 'Tawny', and his every day names will evolve from there. I looked up the word 'tawny' and one definition was: 'of a warm sandy color'.
But I'm still thinking...
He doesn't strike me as a 'Frank' - not worldly enough. ;) No distinguishing traits yet. I once did have a cat named Luciano because of is melodic voice. And he was nice and plump too.

what a beautiful cat! good for you!
Congratulations, what a pretty kitty! I'm pining for a new cat; I lost my Smokey last summer at age 20 and haven't been ready to take the plunge yet because so many things are up in the air in my life ~ at least I get to cat sit for my ex-MIL's tabby in two weeks! I'm going to soak up all sorts of kitty love!
Thank you - I'm growing ever-more fond of him. :)
I'm testing the name 'Peaches' to see if it fits. As in 'Peaches and cream' since his coat is so heavenly creamy looking and his ears and face are fruit-colored. This is an absolutely stunning cat. It's not a very masculine name, but, well, he'll never know, and I like it.
Name ideas for a cute cat - since I like short names.... Max or Ginger or Buddy.
Not knowing what the names of the other cats might be, it was hard to imagine a pattern that you might follow.
Let us know the final decision though, will you please?
Congrats on your new furbaby. Sounds like you are both lucky to have found each other! :-)
He looks adorable Gina! Considering he's not even settled in yet he's looks most comfy and very eager to be a best friend.
How about Bianco? (Italian for the word white).
I've been test-driving the name 'Peaches' for him and think this is it. Of course it is already evolving - Peach, Mr Peaches, Peachy-keen, Peachie, peach pie, Crumb Cake, Peach Cat. ... You know how it goes. :laff:
His coat is an extremely light orange color - like egg yolks blended into cream, so his coat is off-white. Off-Bianco? ;) He's a real beauty.
