I will post some photos in this thread and apologize in advance that they will likely not appear right side up. Perhaps some winter day I will pursue that problem. But anyway, onto the images!

Here is a photo of my 1st in class design at the big National Garden Club district show today at the Dog Museum. There are always 4 designs in each class. This design, and win, is exciting for me because its the first time I have interpreted a piece of art in a floral design. I want to do more of it because my goal is to enter the Art in Bloom competition at the Art Museum where thousands of viewers see the floral designs. My garden club colleagues think I am ready for Art in Bloom, but I want one more year of observation and practice bedore entering.

So the painting in the background is called "Two Dogs" and my floral interpretation uses two copper containers, Royal Sunset lilies, red maple, and copper wire:

Now, why is this "simple?" Haha, this flower arranging stuff isnt cheap. But I have used these copper containers that cost $14 for three flower shows this year where I won dirst place, so they are my workhorses for the year.

Here they are at the Iris show where they are filled with copper colored iris:

And here they are at the World Daffodil Show:

I am frugal because I use flowers grown in my own garden. I grew all of those lilies, iris, daffodils. Many women in the various Garden Clubs buy their flowers for design, or some of the flowers anyway while supplimenting greenery from their gardens. This is allowed in the floral design division.

Congrats! Very impressive. And cool, lol. What are the greens in the daf arrangement, if you don't mind sharing?

I find the Dog Museum piece quite attractive even on its own.

What kind of work is involved in tending live flowers for such an exhibition? Do you do it all or are there people running the show who help?

They are supposed to last for three days but everyone is encouraged to refresh their own arrangements with water and/or fresh flowers every mornng. We do our own watering. But in the plant society shows everyone takes responsibility to keep all entries watered.

Lilies are tough and can go without additinal water pretty easily. At the World Daffodil show, the hotel kept the show room ungodly cold but boy that was good for the flowers!

Your arrangements are one of a kind. You have a talent born out of passion. I don't think some of that can be taught.

Beautiful, IL!! Really gorgeous.

It's very neat to hear you talk about your passion for irises and lilies and then see it in action! I love the way you interpreted Two Dogs. Too bad they weren't bulldogs, though ;)

The fact that you won with your own flowers and $14 containers just makes it all the better!

Beautiful arrangement! And a lovely interpretation of the art piece and the dogs. I never would of thought of such a thing, but now I wish I could do something that would represent my two fur babies! :)
