View Full Version : Fun SL Woodstock Festival!
Let's have some fun. I've always been interested and intrigued by the Woodstock gathering of '69. How I would have loved to be there to live it and witness it.
Anyhow, as a fun thread I thought of having our own Woodstock Celebration (right here), Simple Living style, where SL Members who attend have to bring an old song with them and tell everyone what you are wearing.
OK, here's my song- (Strawberry Alarm Clock- Rainy Day Mushroom Pillow).

And here's my dress. A flowery skirt in lightweight fabric, a groovy pale purple blouse, open-toe sandals, and a funky beaded headband.

Oh Mrs-M, we can count on you to come up with such fun threads! Okay, here I am at Woodstock, I am almost 18 years old that August of 1969 and I am wearing a peasant skirt with a gauzy flowing top, embroidered with flowers. I am barefoot with silver jewerly, big hoop earrings and a garland of flowers in my hair. My hair by the way is very dark, very long, all one length parted in the middle (this is how I looked for MANY years). And the song I am bringing is Van Morrison singing "Brown Eyed Girl". The song is the hard part ............... too many goods one at that time. Janis? Jimi? The Dead?..............., but yeah, I'll go with Van.
Clothes? I have to wear clothes? A mushroom garland and Goin' Up The Country.

yeah, I'm with kib....what's the point of being 18 and looking hot, hot, hot and covering it all up with clothes......that's me, over there, painted all over with daisies in strategic places, groovin' and movin' and waiting for Janis Joplin to show up......
my hair is dark, hanging loose, long enough to reach halfway between my butt and my knees, as it remained until I was in my forties, when I finally cut it all off.....and if necessary (say, if the cops show up......) I can quickly become Lady Godiva sans horse, and cover myself in my shining glory........
we have friends who were at Woodstock, and my sweetie, who didn't even know me yet, was supposed to go, but he and friends never got it together (wonder why) to make the trip, and I was stuck in another world completely, with all that hair neatly confined in a French twist, with two kids, rich clients and a husband (at that time), who would have been shocked out of his gourd at the very idea.....alas........
but....today, I am there, in spirit.......nekkid as a jaybird and looking very much better than I do today under the same conditions. ;-)

Ditto! With something apropo for todays anti-war protest by Country Joe and the Fish:
"Come on now all you big strong men"
"Uncle Sam needs your help again"
"Got himself in a terrible jam"
"Way down yonder in Vietnam"
"So put down your books and pick up a gun"
Were gonna have a whole lots of fun!"
"And it's one, two, three - what are fightin' for?"
"Don't ask me I don't give a damn"
"Next stop is a Vietnam"
"And it's five, six, seven, open up those pearlie gates"
"'Well there ain't no time to wonder why"
"Whoopee, were all gonna die!"
"Come on Generals you've got to move fast"
"Your big chance has come at last"
"We've gotta go out and get them Reds"
"Cause the only good Commie is one that's dead"
"And you know that peace can only be won"
"When you've blown 'em all to Kingdomn come!"
etc...
Edditted to add: I think it's called the "I feel like I'm fixin' to die" song. I was only 9 or 10 during Woodstock but loved political anti war song when I got older.
oooooh! I Feel Like I'm Fixin To Die Rag.
I made the awesome mistake of playing the live version for my Mom when I was in high school. Which starts with the fish cheer, which is, "Gimme an F! F! Gimme a U! U! GImme a C!" and, er, so on. Oops.
The final lyric of that song was such an eye opener for me, it turned me at age 7 into an anti-war protestor, and has kept me one all my life. I really should have been one of those muddy naked little flower children.
Be the first one on your block ...

I LOVE this thread! I am still just an old hippie, ya know! ;) LOL My adult kids tease me about it all of the time..... :D
I would be wearing my hip hugger jeans with flowers I embroidered on them, braless of course, in a skimpy halter top. Long dark blonde hair cascading to my waist. Can't forget my love beads and my granny sunglasses perched on my nose. And of course, Janis Joplin would be my music pick! And don't forget to pass the doobie!! :+1:
You guys are the best! I can see you all so clearly. As for sporting "hippie" in me, I sport lots, but you'd never know it by looking at me. (Just in my heart and the way I think). I've also got major gypsy in me too! So magical thinking what if...
Darn it all, I forgot to add hoop earrings to my attire. Large silver hoops. (Thanks Shalom). As for a little nakedness, I'm with you Kib and LC and Spartana, only on a reserved level, and like Wildflower, I too have a yummy pair of flower decorated jeans on hand for the event. (Love everyone's music selections).
LC. I'll bet your husband kicks himself in the behind every now and then for not getting it together to make it.

Purple Haze...
Me I'm wearing a purple craftan, quite Indian-esque, it has little mirrors and beads sewn all over it so it shimmers in the sunlight, from my ears dangle long purple beaded earrings and I've got a faraway look in my eyes and a big hankering for brownies...and I'm dancing, oh yes, I'm dancing so gracefully, like a willow in the wind...

Whilst I was too far away from the USA to attend Woodstock, I DID go to the first Isle of Wight festival, which I think was in 1968 or 69. I have also attended quite a few Glastobury Fests over the years.
Does quantity count?!
I would be wearing my blue bandanna print bikini, and my song would be Turtle Blues. I would be drinking Sangria and looking for mushrooms.
I remember the fish cheer well--my sib must have played it a million times. My mother was a patient woman...
HappyHiker. Purple Haze..., yes! (You write so beautifully).
IshbelRobertson. Quantity does count Ishbel.
JaneV2.0. Love Turtle Blues!
I'm loving this thread!
