View Full Version : Anyone play the pan flute? Kally?
I've wanted to get a pan flute for a long time. Was wondering if anyone here plays one and if you know what a decent one is. Kally, I know you have lots of these instruments. Do you have a pan flute?

I cannot abide that flutey-thing!
We have a group who play the things, in Princes Street in Edinburgh, dressed in ponchos and with amplifiers and CDs they try to sell.. The SAME South Americans also play in Glasgow (I've checked, they are the SAME people!)
no cathy I can't play the pan flute. I find it too hard. But I DO play the native american flute. Let me know if you are interested in that at all and I can give you lots of guidance.

Have a listen, you might get converted to this flute instead.
Kally.......they sound really nice. How do they differ from a recorder?
I do love the airy-sound that the pan flute has.
well it is so much in the playing that they are different from a recorder. After you master a few basics, you play from the heart, generally without sheet music. It is a different emphasis entirely, and most of the time you play alone.
I have played the recorder and it is a wonderful instrument too, but if you want to let loose pick up a NAF. (I can certainly advise you)
I play a mean "tongue-a-lina". It is a horse hair stretched across a dog's ass - you pluck it with your tongue. The only downside is a bad taste in your mouth. :moon:

zigzagman.........I think you've been rollin' a few too many.:~)
zigzag - how could I have missed playing this instrument all these years?
I can understand your jealousy - but the demand is local only. My wife of 33 years claims that this is what attracted her to me? Who knows? ;)
Peace
Pan flute can be very difficult to play - demands a lot. And cheap ones are even harder to play. I think we've got 2 around here somewhere.
I vote for going with native american flutes first (my husband has over 20 of them including a giant bass and some double and triple chamber ones).
exactly about the NAflutes. I started with 1 and now I have 10. They are fun, pretty easy and very relaxing to play.
Float On - does your husband record his work at all, or is it on youtube or anything?
Kally he is kind of anti-computer so I don't think he has allowed anything on youtube. To be honest, I don't know if he has recorded anything with the flutes or not - they are not his main instrument even though he has so many. I know he has been wanting to get in some recording time but has a crazy schedule. I'll have to ask and see if his wednesday night group has been recording anything.
Thanks Float On. I am not at the stage to record much yet, but have been playing 3 years. I really enjoy the NAflute a lot.
Wow Float On.......I didn't know that about your DH. How cool! (Maybe he and Kally can start a band). :)
I really enjoyed the two videos! Thanks for those.
