Thought that some would find this http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/marketplace-online-prices-profiles-1.4414240 (http://http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/marketplace-online-prices-profiles-1.4414240) interesting to read. I have noticed that whatever I have searched seems to trigger ads on the topic but never thought that it might cause some fluctuation in price. There is advice to guide us as well.

Quotes:
Ever notice how after online shopping or browsing, the advertisements you see on every website seem to have been personalized to include whatever you were looking for?

A Marketplace investigation reveals it's not just ads that your browsing history can affect — it's also the price you're charged.

Companies have the technology to personalize your price using data from your computer, and a Marketplace test shows they're using it.

Shoppers accessing the same website at the same time can be shown different prices for the same product.

I think Amazon does this. Their ads pop up in news stories.

Works for me. Today I clicked on a link in an e-mail from a company I have ordered from before. Their “special sale price” on the item I wanted was higher than I have paid in the past, so I closed the window. Within 3 minutes I had a better coupon in my inbox.

Sometimes leaving stuff in the "cart" overnight or so will get you an economic inducement to check out, too.

Oh, thats interesting! Now that you mention it, I do remember getting email messages urging me to buy, with a discounted orice, things in a cart.
