A simple film with Sam Elliot and Joan Allen and a couple of others about a family living in the desert in New Mexico. A stranger comes into their lives and there is a young interesting daughter in the story. Rather sweet and interesting. What I really enjoyed was seeing this family live on $5000 a year (in the story). How they made do with everything, salvaged at the dump, made everything, shot squirrels etc.
I know it is just a story, but it was kinda cool.
Oh I remember I really loved that movie when I saw it years ago. I'd like to see it again. Thanks for the reminder.
Putting on my list - thanks
I liked this movie so much that I bought it. It's a quirky thought provoking flick.

Sounds good - will try to get it from the library.
Do you think it would be suitable for a 12-year-old?
yes if they can handle a little animal on the range death. Nothing horrible.
We talk about this film periodically on this board. I thought it was interesting. Dramatically--not very substantial, but the lifestyle portrayed was interesting.
