Now that it's warm, I ended up changing my clothes three times yesterday before work because I HATE the majority of my hot weather clothing, most of which was purchased at the thrift stores. I've lost about ten pounds since last summer and all the sleeveless or short sleeve blouses I have hang on me and they look pretty bad.

Plus, with the new short hair cut I really just have no idea how I want to dress for work ~ I live in a college town and sell musical instruments. Winter is easy as I usually wear long sleeve shirts, jeans and harness boots but it is hot and I need to figure out a cool style to wear, based on short-sleeve T's and jeans (I can't wear shorts to work). So I weeded out the crap and will go try Target tomorrow for a few basic T's, maybe some new comfortable sandals or Keens to wear (I tried on Converse Hi-Tops for the first time in about 25 years and decided at almost 50 that I really can't pull that look off anymore; plus, they are very uncomfortable)! I have been looking to see what all the college girls wear but will have to adapt it so it doesn't look silly on a woman my age! I am quite trim and tall, but have a slight "mom" muffin top and just noticed yesterday that the skin on my upper arms is starting to look creppy (sp)? Yikes! That is slightly freaking me out because I still like to wear sleeveless tank tops!

I really don't like to fuss too much with my appearance but it is important to me to look good because it makes me feel more confident ~ I guess I'm going to aim for a more modern, hip sort of look but not too trendy now that I've dropped the big wild hair, '70's chick thing I had going for so long! ;)

I bet you feel like you've lost another 10 pounds, not that you've cleared out your closet (not that you NEEDED to lose another 10, of course!). What about some comfy peasant-style skirts for summer?

Good for you!
I also like the look of Converse but they have no support. I have a pair of Keen Coronado's and they look kind of like Converse, but are super comortable.
I was shopping at Target for dd's birthday and they had some really cute knicker-style pants.

"I really don't like to fuss too much with my appearance but it is important to me to look good because it makes me feel more confident ~" I so agree!

Uggh! I just got back from Target, empty-handed! Not a single thing that I liked ~ the problem as I see it is there are two types of clothing; all the cute stuff for the teens and twenty-somethings, and then "mom" stuff! Yeah, even though I am a mom, I am a hip momma but I would look silly wearing the junior clothes because they don't fit right and I can't pull it off anymore. The "mom" styles look so dowdy to me, and everything else is too dressy for where I work. So I am right back where I started, with hardly anything to wear. I may resign myself to the dreaded mall tomorrow and look for a few nicer-end boutique-y things that don't look so cheap and mass-produced. I am not having much luck at the thrift stores either because of fit issues. I am a firm believer in fit makes or breaks the outfit, and really did learn a lot by watching What Not To Wear when I still had TV.
My old boss at the shop I work at always looked so good because he had a basic uniform of always wearing dark jeans, black T's, and heavy sterling link bracelet and cool shoes. He is from Argentina and has such a clean, modern style ~ I would like to do something like that as a woman; I just need to find the basic pieces and start a new warm weather wardrobe all over again, since I have been wearing the same stuff for the last five years.

I will see if my friend (who actually likes to shop) will go with me tomorrow to the dreaded mall ~ left on my own I would last about 35 minutes, swearing under my breath the whole time!

You could do some "pre-shopping" to help the trip: cruise around the big stores's websites (Penney, Macys, Belks, Dillards) to see if you like the styles they offer. If you don't, then mark them of the list for tomorrow!

Look into hiking/travel clothes. The pants are lightweight and have pockets. A nicer tshirt or newer 'technical' lightweight tops make a cool outfit that is neat without being too fussy. I like REI or Ex-Officio, although I almost always buy on sale. These clothes just do not wear out. They also dry quickly when they are hand washed, which is important in my life right now.

I guess I am not in a shopping mood at all. I just spent the afternoon up on campus with a friend looking at stuff and trying a few things on...nada. I tried on some expensive shoes by Merrell and Keen, and I just can't bring myself to spend the money. I'm just not excited about anything right now, least of all shopping...I guess I am in a rut. I am not one for retail therapy, that's for sure.

SiouzQ: I love my Merrells and they last forever. In my opinion, they are worth the price whatever it might be!

Sierra Trading Post online has Merrells (my fav) and Keens on sale a lot. I really don't shop that much anymore, but I 'window shop' online when I'm bored.

Argh, how well I know the problem!

I hate shopping and buy almost everything on line. My fave for T's, socks, and undies is Hanes: http://tinyurl.com/3e8a3xg
