A little windfall

We got a phone call out of the blue from the mortgage company we had used for our last house. She said the balance of our account would be sent to the state's unclaimed funds dept unless we claimed it. Figured it was a very small amount but turned out to be $750.00 that the mortgage company held on to for three plus years. Seems like kind of a racket not to inform customers of remaining funds after a house payoff... but a nice little surprise as we received the check today.

I checked with our state's unclaimed property this January- and found there were items from 20+ years ago we thought we had taken care of. We got a total of almost $300 back. Never hurts to check!
