View Full Version : Treadmill & standing desk
I am looking into setting this up in my home office. I found a headless treadmill, and DH can build or adapt a commercial desk set-up for me. Estimating about $1200 to get this going.
Have you or do you work at a treadmill desk? I need to lose 40-60 pounds, relieve lower back stress, and condition my legs to help out my knees. This is a very compelling idea. Would love any feedback!
I should think it would be hard to do any writing or typing. I also think you'll not want to keep walking for hours on end.

I wonder how it will be to use a computer this way... the studies I've read suggest walking .8-1 mph, and slow, steady amble, and that it's not difficult to word process at that speed. I don't write much except at meetings - and if I get an iPad, that may change as well - writing at a walking station would be odd for sure. The walking for hours on end is actually what I do want! It's where weight loss happens...
Hi redfox, I asked this question a while ago and received some good feedback:

I'm still interested too. Sounds cool.
I am able to read and navigate on the laptop quite easily while walking at a good clip, but I have to slow the treadmill pace a lot to type. However, I think just standing is better than sitting. If I recall correctly, standing burns almost twice as many calories as sitting.

Oh, yes, now I remember this... Thank you!!!
