So it seems some clever folks have figured out how to make all the pagers owned by Hezbollah explode. Sounds like a bad movie plot, but it seems to have worked pretty well. I wasn’t even aware people used pagers anymore.

That was an impressive and creative attack. Hezbollah had told people to stop using mobile phones as they were afraid Israel would implant explosives in them.

I see some of their handheld radios are exploding now as well. This may present difficulties in coordinating their next massacre.

Jonah Goldberg recently podcasted about the bizarre coverage NPR has been giving the “grim beeper campaign”. They talked about the people being injured as they “went about their daily lives”, which is probably true in that terrorists have daily lives like anyone else. They also interviewed “experts” who claimed Israel was violating the rules of war by sabotaging equipment issued to members of a terrorist organization, and quoted Hezbollah leaders (who have launched something like 8,000 missiles in indiscriminate attacks on civilians since 10/7) saying Israel “crossed a red line”.

I saw an interview with Fetterman where he was asked about the exploding pagers. He said, "If anything I love it". As long as Hezbollah continues lob rockets into Israel, some form of escalation could be expected. At least they targeted political leaders instead of firing rockets into civilian neighborhoods. The whole situation coming from both sides is rather worrisome.

I was horrified to hear that children and elderly have been killed and maimed by the exploding pagers.

As attacks go, it was about as selective as it’s possible to get. Devices issued to enemy combatants with a very limited blast radius. Quite different from relatively inaccurate rocket attacks in the general area of population centers or simply killing anyone you happen to come across in a 10/7 style raid.

I was horrified to hear how many rockets Hezbollah has lobbed into Israel since October 7th.

Yes, me too.

There will almost always be collateral damage. And given the demographics, it won’t keep me up nights.
