View Full Version : Saran Wrap Vinegar and Evaporation
I made some herb vinegars, and some are in jars with Saran Wrap on the top. I get the feeling that the vinegar might still evaporate. Could that be right? What else should I use to store the vinegar in then. Metal tops won't work.

The nicer commercial vinegars I buy have metal tops. If you are worried about the metal however, put a snug layer of saran wrap over the top, and then screw the metal lid over that. Or look for bottles with plastic threaded lids, or even use old-fashioned corks.
My suggestion would be one of those old-fashioned glass bottles with the metal handle clamps and and rubber stopper.

There are a number of specialty beers that come in such bottles. Would definitely make for superb vinegar storage!
Save the cork when you open a bottle of wine, wash out the bottle and the cork and you're good to go. Mrs_M's beer bottle suggestion should work perfectly as well.
