Just wanted to post some good news about employment! I spoke to the hiring manger at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon (from where I was laid off 10/16) and if nothing else materializes, they say they are happy to take me back and will even give me the niche I want - ****tail server on the veranda. This job makes less money than serving indoors BUT every move you make is not being watched by management and it is actually sometimes fun and it is much more casual than working dinner indoors. I bring this up as I have learned through YMOYL to view working much differently.....Not always am I going necc just for the most money. Rob of the Valley once more

Yeah!
Good deal, Rob! Always nice to have a backup & obviously they liked you!
Congratulations, Rob! I hope that if you decide to go back this schedule will allow you more time to enjoy exploring the Park.
But I still think you should try to get a job at Mt. Rainier! Then we could come visit you -- and I'm a good tipper when I'm on vacation :) ...

lhamo I have thought of this before and I sure would like to meet you! And in Washington State the base wage for servers is over $8 an hour! The only thing is that the company that runs the concessions in Mt. Rainier, Guest Services, Inc, has a horrible reputation in the seasonal workers world. Bad rep for housing and for how they treat their employess.....

Hey, that's great, Rob.......also something nice about working somewhere where it's so far away to anywhere where you can spend any of the money that more of your pay sticks in your bank account where it belongs.......

Hey, that's great, Rob.......also something nice about working somewhere where it's so far away to anywhere where you can spend any of the money that more of your pay sticks in your bank account where it belongs.......Definitely true, especially with the closest shopping being three hours away in St. George, Utah. But I just wanted to add that even up in the middle of nowhere like the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, there is internet access. I witnessed more than a few people blow all their money by shopping online, one person by gambling online, and here's a sad one, several blowing all their money drinking in the employee pub every night. So without some direction, it is possible to spend it all even in the middle of nowhere. (and this does not include those who made frequent trips to Mesquite,NV, 3 1/2 hours away, to blow it all in the casinos.....Rob of the North Rim once again May 2011
