Every once in a while I like to hear what other people are listening to and maybe get some new ideas for the playlist. I've gotten some great ideas from the boards before, so I thought I'd throw this out there again.

I've had this song kicking around in my head lately. I think it's because I'm about to have a baby and his name is the same as the band's. I think of this as baby Travis' song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emELbCpxDBA

Related to that (solo work of the lead singer of Travis), I like this song.

I saw this band in concert last month and have been listening to a lot of them too. Punch Brothers.

I also like Adele's new song. It's fun to sing along with.

Herbie Han****'s Imagine album. I actually forgot that I bought it on iTunes..."found" it on my iPod this weekend. Also Bela Fleck and Chick Corea. I must have been in some sort of spending frenzy that I had amnesia about (I have since repented and regained the wagon).

L.

Edited to add: how odd that Herbie's last name has to be partially bleeped out....hope you know who I meant.

"The Sound of Silence", not the Simon and Garfunkel version but nature's version. With a music major background you'd think I would listen to music non-stop but I'm burned out on it and really enjoy silence. When I do listen to music it's usually Native American Flute or sounds of nature, i.e. loons, birds, etc.. Sometimes I get an urge to listen to a good ole' bombastic John Philip Sousa march but mostly it's silence.

yep, Pink has a recent "Greatest Hits" CD. Is that the one? That girl can write some hummable tunes.

I've got a bunch of gothic metal CDs from the library by Nighwish, The Gathering, Dead Can Dance. I'm trying to work though my attraction to symphonic metal. Its hard to listen to when you've got only cheap playback equipment as I do. I've just got a boom box. These CDs are quite noisy.

But like goldensmom, I don't listen to a lot of music.

At this very moment I am listening to our local station (KINK) that plays accoustic on Sunday mornings. It is part of our coffee, sunday paper ritual.

I"ve also got a recording of Barber's "Adagio for Strings" to play along as I skim the book The Saddest Music in the World:the story of Samuel Barber's Adagios for Strings by Thomas Larson.

Today while at the gym it was Greg Brown, an Iowa singer-songwriter. Also I want to put in a plug for one of south-eastern lower Michigan's best female singer-songwriter/rocker and soul mama (and a friend of mine) ~ her Name is Jill Jack and you should check out her website at www.jilljack.com

Robin Trower's Bridge of Sighs album is great working out material too!

Lately I've been listening to Mumford & Sons in my car.
Renee Stahl is a new find for me and I love her voice.
The soundtrack from Eat Pray Love is getting a lot of spin in the old player, too.

i seem to be in a dance music-ish kind of mood lately.

been listening to robyn quite a lot. this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hA9UA3CSnms) is hilarious; this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TlwcQn5eBI) is sweet.

also, after listening to robyn do a bjork song, i had to go listen to her, too. she's just amazing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Beu3ZLr-UEA&feature=related).

Robin Trower's Bridge of Sighs album is great working out material too!

Reading this post inspired me to get Trower's LP from the loft. It is terrific and hasn't seemed to date at all. If you like Scottish vocalists, the female variety, I'm listening to Belle and Sebastian. Not quite music to work out to but rather good in my opinion.

At the moment - the dulcet sounds of our hot water tank being replaced. Soon, it will be the sound of running water, a shower, dinner prep, and kitchen clean-up! My how I take western luxuries for granted...

Counrty, Josh Groben, Rod Stewart, -- but often when I am home and alone -- nothing, no TV for background, no radio, just silence. So much background noise at work the peace and quite when I go home is nice.

I like to listen to BBC1 Radio over the internet. My favorite "D.J." is Richard Allinson. He's introduced me to a number of artists which aren't widely known here in the states, although one of my favorite's, Katherine Jenkins, is starting to get some play here. I also like an Italian rock/jazz/blues/fusion group called Zucchero. I've been collecting their CDs for awhile now.

Bob Dylan.
When I leave this world I request all who cared about me to have a picnic on a sunny day and play Blood On The Tracks and smile as I am sprinkled somewhere nice. SO I get to go out hearing Mr. Dylan one last time.

Steely Dan is always a summer favorite for me. The Hothouse Flowers is played any time of the year.

I burned a copy of British Beat from the library-a great collection of Brit tunes from the 60's. The Zombies, Petula Clark, Jerry and the Pacemakers, Chad & Jeremy, The Seekers, The Kinks, Tom Jones, Dusty Springfield. I've always loved those songs and was thrilled to find them all in one place. Look a bit silly singing my head off while driving.

lately it's been all about beyonce's new album for me. i'm really loving it!

i've also been on the jay z, the sharon jones and the dap kings, and some classic 60s soul. been finding a lot of new soul revival stuff, too, through spotify. i signed up for the premium version -- it's $10 a month to hear anything you want on any device, which seems like a huge bargain to me!

Hi, pony mom!

I stumbled upon them in the early '90s after finding a "Home" cassette in a bargain bin at the local record shop. I just fell in love with it (it was probably just what a sullen teenager needed). Now, I have several albums that I find myself returning to any time I'm feeling low. :o) Haven't seen them live, but I'm sure it would be great fun and very high energy! How did you find them?

folky poet, years ago I knew one song by them but found two cd's in the library and borrowed them so often that I finally bought some for myself. Check out their live performances on You Tube---there's lots to see there. They haven't toured here in over a year but usually play at small venues. I usually see the same fans in the crowd each time. Liam is so talented and other-worldly and very humble. I was lucky enough to meet them a few times and have a great photo of me and Liam.

If you can find it, there is a great live concert dvd called "Hothouse Flowers Live at the Avenue" that captures the spirit and energy of their show--it's almost like being there!

Every one of their songs brings out the best in me (no easy feat!)

Celine Dion The French Album, and some of her other French-language CDs. I've never been a fan of her English-language work; not sure why. But oh, how I love Pour Que Tu M'aimes Encore!
