View Full Version : Insulation?

We are considering blowing insulation into the sidewalls of the new house. Unfortunately, we are only thinking of this now, after the tax credit for insulation expired :sick: Oh well, it wasn't thousands, but it would have helped a little.

Ok, so has anyone done this? The bid was almost $4000. :0! We are willing to pay if we have to, but maybe we don't have to . . . they do know what they are doing, though. And they'd patch all the holes, which will have to be made inside.

Any advice on this is welcome. Note that it does not involve the attic, which I understand to be really easy! Dang! That's already done, so actually not dang.

:thankyou::thankyou::thankyou:

I don't know anything about the merits/relative costs of blown insulation, but I have noticed that it is what Mike Holmes of Holmes on Homes (home remodeling/drama show on HGTV) tends to use. If they can do it through small holes that can be patched then you remove the cost of having to redo the drywall, so probably a pretty economical choice. Though there was an episode of Property Brothers I saw last week where they discovered that the first floor of their old home had NO insulation whatsoever, and they chose to rip it all out to the studs and reinsulate with conventional fiberglass insulation, so maybe it is a tossup?

Yes, I watched a LOT of house porn during my recent trip home. I think Iris Lily and I may need to start a separate thread about men in tool belts!

we blew it in from the outside. Is that possible for your siding? It made a big difference.

kally, nope, we don't think so, or at least a lot more difficult to patch than interior walls. Brick home.
