Flower show theme this year will be: IPod for a table design.

The format is that we decorate a card table with tablecloth, napkins, plates, and a small flower arrangement.

Need brainstorming ideas about how to incorporate "IPod" and/or smart phones in a design like this.

Go for it! Just toss out the ideas!

what about a play on the word 'pod' --- peapods as Mother Nature's original iPod
???????

that's weak. I'm barely an iPod user and haven't jumped to smart phone yet.

If it is the iPOD you're playing off of though -- I love the graphic with the Blacked Out Person and their Ear Buds (Ear 'buds' -- another floral play on words) with neon background.

Something about - Blacked Out Silloutte - with ear buds connecting to a bold colored floral arrangement (instead of the iPod)

Here are three links for ideas to build off of when I quickly googled 'iPod themed party':

oh, ear "buds"--Tha'ts brilliant! I wonder if the judges would get it? That COULD be so cool! Flower show ladies are almost always of a certain age. I'm on the young cusp of that age.

I was shocked to meat a young lady, about 20 years old, who had been certified as an iris judge as well as in design. wow, she is a freak of nature.

Just to be clear, iPods are mostly for listening to music. With some of them, you can also watch videos. The iPhone is a smart phone. Then there's the iPod Touch, which is more than an iPod, but less than an iPhone--it does pretty much everything the iPhone does, except the phone part. So you might clarify with the people running this--do they mean iPods, which play music, or iPhones, which are super duper phones/music players/have all sorts of apps? The names may be the same, but the functions are very different.

Here's a link to pictures of the various iPod models: http://www.apple.com/ipod/compare-ipod-models/. That round scroll wheel is an iconic symbol of the iPod, even though some of the newer ones don't have it. It was there on the first ever iPod and most people familiar with iPods will recognize it.

The first iPods were white. Then you could get black or white. Then one model came out in pastel colors. So that might be the basis of your color scheme. The white earbuds are also an icon of the iPod.

Because the iPod is all about music, you could incorporate that somehow. What the iPod did was allow you to take your music with you, anywhere, anytime. You could put together all your favorite songs, without having to listen to the ones you didn't like. You know, there's always one track on a CD that you just don't like--with the iPod, you could import the whole CD and the erase just that one song. So it was all about personalizing your music your way.

You could fold pastel napkins into square to look like the mini-iPods. Then have round white plates to look like the scrollwheels. Have black music notes bursting from a colorful flower arrangement. And I love the idea of working ear-buds in somehow.

The iPod has a pretty stark graphic look. You could make a stencil of that graphic and use it to decorate tablecloth, napkins.

Or you could start with the stark graphic of the iPod, then draw/paint/glue flower parts to the scroll wheel part, making a different flower face for each one. You could frame different photos--gardeners, gardens, individual flowers--in the screen area.

You could silhouette an iPod and its earbuds black on white or vice versa, then repeat the image in various ways.

You could gather up random ear buds and work them into flower arrangements. I just saw some particularly spiffy metallic ones at my Grocery Outlet today for $4.

This strikes me as an off-the-wall theme that has zero to do with flowers or seventy-something gardeners--is it just me?

The themes never had anything to do with flowers. Recent themes are "Westward Ho" and Giants (the movie) and "A Day of SHopping and Fun" and "The Circus" (for which I won Best in Show.) It's all pretty random. It's such a rarified, ladies-who-lunch kind of hobby, it makes me laugh to think that I participate in these things. Really, I am a grower not an arranger, I just do a little bit of competitive arranging.

Miss C, thanks for the reminder about what an Ipod really is. I have viewed them on the web and that wheel does look appealing so I think I'll be incorporating that wheel in some way. Plus the ear buds. Plus a little music somehow.

iPods as door prizes! That might be amusing. I gave my geezerly technophobe beloved an MP3 player a year or so ago--fully loaded with music he likes. I spent hours putting it all together. I anticipated his joy....

I think he's using it as a coaster. He is to technology as I am to housework.

Congratulations on that Best in Show!
