Has anyone read any of his writings? I was looking at the price of his books since I like the approach of looking at both the economic and ecologic cost in his calculations.
This link will give you some idea of his thinking.

It is becoming increasingly obvious that material processes in the biosphere are very much intertwined with cultural aspects such as our ways of thinking and our consumption patterns. The most obvious example is perhaps climate change, which we know is largely driven by our patterns of consumption. If ecologists look at the biosphere as if there were no human societies in it, and economists look at societies as if they didn’t depend on the biosphere, none of them will know how to handle things like climate change. As long as economists continue to think that the only relevant metric for measuring global trade is money, they will not see the asymmetric net transfers of real resources such as energy and matter that make technological expansion possible within some areas of the world.

That sounds very good, razz.

Our economy is a subsystem of our ecology, and wholly dependent upon it. The ecosystem within which we exist is the source of all the raw materials that fuel life & economic activity, other than the sun. It's also the sink into which all waste is dumped. It is beyond foolish that we are in the process of ruining the matrix of all of life on this planet.

We're a remarkably short-sighted species in many ways, hm? Luckily, there are many who are devoting their lives, or a big part of their lives, to bringing these issues to light. A strange, stressful, and sometimes fascinating dance.
