What is the meaning of this emoticon?
It looks to me like "I'm going to turn red and bite you repeatedly, then turn yellow again."

Well, if you put your mouse over it, the word "devil" appears. But your interpretation is more informative ;)

The devil is sneaky and seductive and dangerous. Do not fool with him.

Gregg

Lol...kind of sinister looking, isn't it!

Oh goody, an emoticon Rorschach test...

I see a nice calm external persona trying to mask the very disturbed demon beast living inside....

Or perhaps it's just someone who has waited too long for a meal.

I think it is really cute; but I can't actually imagine a sentence that it could modify or augment that wasn't precisely what Gina said.

I'm in no danger of misusing it, though, because I can't focus long enough to learn how to put the little critters into posts. Heck, most of the time I can't stick with it long enough to actually post.

The longer I look at it, though, the more I like it...and I noticed that I wanted to attach male gender to "him." Hmmm....

I could see it being associated with some of the snarkier remarks here.

come on, it's obvious.... PMS. ha ha

gotta say....that's the first thing I thought......PMS (from a person who was actually GLAD to finally get a hysterectomy because she no longer had one week out of the month where she had to force herself not to actually attack people, then drown herself in chocolate for comfort.

Of course, my ex-husband would pour gasoline on the problem, then light a match, but the first time my sweetie of the past thirty plus years encountered the "devil", he looked kindly at me and said, "BOY.....you really need a hug!" and pulled me down on his lap for a warm cuddle. I promptly burst into tears and the storm was over......boy did that guy know what he was doing, and ever after, it was never really bad......

but I sure could have used an emoticon like that, back in the day....hahahaha

The beauty of perception is that some of us see a raging lunie with a calm center. Oh well, they all look like butterflies to me.

:) It kind of reminds me of my toddler.

EVIL!! PURE EVIL.

It's the visual representation of the expression "mahahaha" :) (Which is intended to signify an evil laugh). I think it should be called "mahahaha"

The one I don't understand is this one:!pow!

If you mouse over, it says "Make my day". What on earth is it supposed to be, though? It looks like a squid choking a duck.

BTW, my personal preference is always for non-animated smilies. But that's just me.

That one was courtesy of Helen. I think it's the flying spaghetti monster??? Not really sure myself.

Not really. ;) Prior to this thread, I hadn't paid much attention to it, but now I kinda like the PMS/toddler/sinister beast with low blood sugar.

It's not an octopus with a hot glue gun? !pow!

I think it's the most perfect emoticon to express a gibe or friendly ribbing. Of course it's the most perfect emoticon to suggest evil, sinister, dark, and conniving approaches towards others too.

Maybe it's an octopus having a really bad hair day, with a blow dryer.

 PMS yes, but let's add in that transition time from perimenopause into full blown menopause. This emoticon represents me perfectly right now. LOL I think this stage in life is harder than PMS anyday, at least for me. My poor husband. ;)

I was just looking at some 'violent' smilies, and some really are. Way too offensive for me.

This one still escalates the discussion, but isn't too bad:

He really IS a sweetie, though........

This one !pow! is Cthulhu, from Lovecraft. I only know because I saw an adorable Cthulhu avatar somewhere and wondered about it. I'm not a Lovecraft devotee, and I have no idea its (her? his?) significance.
