View Full Version : New Tiny Homes Book
http://www.shelterpub.com/_tiny_homes/tiny_homes_book.html
Finally, my copy of Lloyd Kahn's newest book from Shelter Publications, "Tiny Homes", arrived in my mailbox today. I've spent the last few hours reading and dreaming.
Ooooo. Thank you. I just ordered a copy.
Sounds like my kind of read! One dream of mine, a lifelong dream, has been to own a tiny little warm and cozy cabin, tucked away somewhere in the wilderness, private, all to itself, with no phone and no lights. A large floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, and lots of windows to allow for maximum natural light penetration. And no cabin is a cabin, without a deck, to enjoy ones fresh-brewed early morning coffee!
I think my favorite one in the book is actually floating cabin on a beautiful lake. She even has a floating veggie garden (which keeps critters out of it)!!
They packed two of the Tiny Tiny books along with my order - they are micro books that they've been giving out at bookstores and fairs. I seriously don't know how they made such a tiny book! It's cute!
Fawn - I hope you selected Media Mail as the shipping option. It came well packed and pretty fast. I think I got it in 4 days.

Our family owns a 480 sq ft beach cabin. It was built in the 60's it has 2 tiny bedrooms, bathroom(recently remodeled), and great room. I hope to make the kitchen more functional soon. If you head out the front door to the right it is 1/4 mile to the ocean, to the left is a short walk to a lake. Float on I paddle my kayak there.
morning - that sounds lovely and I'd downsize from my 1500 sq ft cabin to a 500 sq ft cabin in a heart beat. My husband said if I ever did that that he'd have to build his own cabin right next door because just his guitar/flute room is about 300 sq ft already. I'm about 5 minutes from my driveway to the boat ramp that I put in my kayak at most often. But sadly I'm hours and hours and hours from ocean beach.
I still have one of the Tiny, Tiny promo books left if anyone ones one - you might need a maginifying glass to read any of the text but it's cute and gives you an idea of what the actual book is about.
Do you plan to build a teeny tiny house? My heart simply yearns for one.
OMG! Our library has 7 copies! I really didn't expect that. I've just reserved it. I'm the 16th person in line. Hopefully I should have it in 5 or 6 weeks!
Oooh, just ordered one from our library too. Wonderful daydream material.

So, we all are craving a tiny home--I subscribe to the Tumbleweed House newsletter, and I also crave one. So... what's keeping us? What is the barrier to actually getting a tiny house?
Here's my favorite tiny house--the one I lived in for six weeks
http://silententry.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/mtcarmel.jpg?w=700&h=
My barriers:
DH loves the house we raised our kids in
I love the house we raised our kids in
Not sure I could really get rid of what I would need to
May think of it as 'nice place to visit but wouldn't want to live there
Afraid I'd be living on top of DH
So, if we would really love to live in a tiny house the way we say we would, what do we need to do to actually get one? And are we willing to actually follow through?
Both copies of the little tiny promo book are gone.
Catherine,
My barrier is my husband. We laugh about it but I'd love to go smaller (I just want a larger dining area than what we have).
I think my husband is afraid I'll sell the place one day while he's gone.
I want more land and less house (and we've only got 1500 sq ft now).

Saw the cover of this book and just loved the tiny home on there. DH and I think about having one when he retires so
That it can be his office and we aren't on top of each other. We thought of not having water in it since we are not sure how it would effect our taxes with another full fledged house on the property...
I also want more land and less house...my barrier is my husband...

http://lloydkahn-ongoing.blogspot.com/ This is Lloyd Kahn's daily blog. I've been reading it for quite awhile now. May have gotten the link here, now that I think of it.
My barrier so far is money. I'm down in Honduras working to pay off my debt. That, and renters who think they shouldn't have to pay rent just 'cause they LOVE IT living there so much. Yeah.
Got this book from the Library teeny house porn!
My partner and I just downsized to 829 sq. ft. from 1,100 sq. ft. last week. I hope to downsize further at some point in the not-too-distant future. I find tiny homes so inspiring!
