Here's some fascinating history of the different colours of carrots and where they came from. The original carrots were purple and yellow. In England in the 1400s only red and white carrots were grown. Northern Europe had orange, yellow, and red, just 100 years later.

That is an interesting link as I have been fascinated with how species developed for most of my life but never imagined a carrot museum.
