View Full Version : RIP Sally Ride
As the first American female astronaut, she was a great inspiration to a generation of girls who wanted to grow up to be astro-geeks and science-nerds. Showing that beauty, kindness, talent, feminity, drive and brains can all go hand in hand!
Agree with you, Spartana. And 61 is too young! At that age she would have graduated H.S. in 1969 or so, the cutting edge of the feminist era. Those who came after owe a debt to her.
She also wrote several childrens books about science and space exploration as well as founded an educational foundation to promote science and math education for elementery and middle school kids - with a special focus on getting girls more involved in math and science.
She was an early role model when we had far too few, and a gracious one at that. And now she's off on a new adventure.
She was a hero to me when I was younger. "You mean....I could do that kind of stuff too?" Priceless.

She sure was a hero to me. I hope she's out there among the stars.
I read her obit and was amazed. Some people are so filled with success at whatever they try to accomplish in life.
