We didn't see Godfather unless just a couple of years ago. Gocfather I and II, that is. The Godfather fans on my movie board say don't bother with G III. I'ts pretty good, but I don't understand men's obsession with it. Bu tI guess they don't understand my obsession with Sex and the City (tv series, not the films.)

Sometimes I can't remember if I've actually seen a famous movie or not, because I've seen the famous scenes -- but did I actually see the whole movie? I know I haven't seen "Gone With the Wind", but I've read the book, so I feel like I've seen the movie. Have I actually seen "It's a Wonderful Life"? At this point I just don't know ... but I don't think so. "Shane"? Don't think so.

This isn't a famous movie, but my kids and DH swear I've seen "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" -- they swear I went to see it with them and sat thru the whole thing, but I swear I haven't seen it ... but yeah, I know all the funny scenes because I saw them on TV! {sigh}

My list would go on for pages. I haven't seen It's a Wonderful Life, though I've seen snatches of it--have zero interest in it. I bet there are movies I'd enjoy, but I'm about as avid a movie buff as I am a traveler. :~)

I just saw Terminator and Terminator 2 in the last few years. Apparently the trailer for T2 gave away the gimmick, so DH says I am the only person in the universe who was able to watch that movie without knowing about it.

I also find myself unable to watch Citizen Kane. I get bored in the first half hour and shut it off.

^ I saw Citizen Kane only a couple years ago and I was unimpressed!

I've never seen Casablanca.

Add me to the list of never seen It's a Wonderful Life" okay I have seen bits and pieces, when the rest of the family watches it...but never in it's entirety...something about old black & white movies and cheesy acting...! :0!

Never seen a Star Wars or Star Trek or the like...science fiction bores me to tears (actually to sleep)! Harry Potter, Twilight, etc. again seens bits and pieces, but to sit through the whole thing - pure torture. Any movies with LOTS of blow them up stuff. :~)

Unfortunately my dw LOVES all those kinds of movies!

"something about old black & white movies and cheesy acting..."

:+1: Yes! I'm mystified as to why (generic) people who will watch the worst kind of (generic) drivel when it's presented as a "film" so often look down their noses at us teevee buffs. Is it the commercials? Another of life's mysteries.

Shawshank Redemption

I sometimes feel that I'm the only person on the planet who hasn't seen it.

pony mom, I've only seen the parts that were on when I was walking through the room. DH has outlined enough of the plot for me that I get the gist.

Oh, I've never seen Driving Miss Daisy either.

oh that's right, I've not seen Casablanca and I'm not interested in doing so.

I didn't see It's a Wonderful Life until I was about 32 years old and I was surprised about how much I liked it.

I haven't seen:

Any of the Godfather movies
To Kill a Mockingbird
Citizen Kane
It's a Wonderful Life (I've seen tiny parts on TV at times)

I only saw The Wizard of Oz all the way through last year. My brother got the DVD for his kids. Prior to that, I'd only seen bits and pieces on TV. Interestingly, my brother says that with both The Wizard of Oz and It's a Wonderful Life, he hated them both when watching them on TV. But he loves them now that he has the DVDs. He says that they have both been edited so much to fit into TV time slots that entire scenes that are necessary to the plot have been cut out.

Me, I didn't like the movie version of Wizard of Oz very much, because I'd read the book so often as a child that all I could do was point out all the places where the movie varies from the book.

I've been thinking about this topic for awhile and wondering what made a movie a 'famous' rather than a 'classic' so I decided to go with Anne Lee's list because I like it. I thought comparisons of the same movies might be fun.

2 THE GODFATHER 1972 -Yes, didn't like it
3 CASABLANCA 1942 - Yes
4 RAGING BULL 1980 - No
5 SINGIN' IN THE RAIN 1952 - Yes, great music
6 GONE WITH THE WIND 1939 - Yes, truly an epic movie
7 LAWRENCE OF ARABIA 1962 - No
8 SCHINDLER'S LIST 1993 - Yes, excellent movie that I would never watch again.
9 VERTIGO 1958 - Yes
10 THE WIZARD OF OZ 1939 - Yes, monkeys scared me, still do.
11 CITY LIGHTS 1931 - No
12 THE SEARCHERS 1956 - No
13 STAR WARS 1977 - Yes, best of all the Star War movies
14 PSYCHO 1960 - No, on my way to see it at a drive in and changed my mind
15 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY 1968 - Yes, 'Thus Spake Zarathustra"

I usually steer clear of the sappy romances. I've never seen:

The Notebook (although I just picked it up from the library... may actually watch it at some point this weekend - lol)
Bridges of Madison County
Sex in the City (none of the movies)

Nothing else pops into mind.

Uh, Star Wars. Any of them. I guess I've seen bits and pieces. But considering I'm 40, it's pretty impressive that I've never seen them.

Almost forgot about Twilight. None of them, but would consider it if I get snowed in. What is it about vampires?
