DD needs a queen metal bed frame and I'd like to buy her one. I've been looking at them online, and it appears as though they come in a queen/king size. The pictures look like if you use it for a queen mattress, the head and the foot rails stick out on one side by like 5". Do any of you have that size and have you found that the rails that stick out if you use it for a queen mattress, can be a hazard?
Thanks!

That wouldn't do...imagine the bumped shin every morning.
I know some frames are made for the right size. I'd suggest getting one with a 5th leg in the center for support. We bought one when we needed a guest bed and it doesn't stick out on the sides at all.

Thanks Float On,
I'm look at the one at Menards. It does have the extra supports in the middle. But the picture looks like the legs might stick out if you don't use a King mattress. Here's a pic of it. Tell me what you think.

It looks like just what we have. The frame only extends to the edge of the bed whether queen or king. It would be too dangerous for the customer and manufacturer to stick out at any time.

Thanks sweetana,
The picture might just be showing how large it could be, if you didn't make it the queen size.?? I would never buy a frame that stuck out like that, so I was hoping they wouldn't make one like that!
Menards is only asking for under $40, but lots of them go for alot more. It says its carbon steel, and has the extra legs, so I'm assuming it would be fine for a 140# girl. Just a bit curious that its so much cheaper at Menards, than even Big Lots.

Thats a great price for it.
I think what you are seeing is how far the head/foot of the bed extends out over the legs yet it hugs the 4 corners of the mattress. The corner legs are actually about 1 foot away from the head/foot of the bed frame on our frame. (I just checked for you). And I was wrong ours has the 6 feet not 5, just like what you posted...but we paid more!
They'll have a simple push button-slide-nobbie thing to adjust between queen/king.

It says adjustable (well, it says adj.) If you look at the picture, not all the rails are solid pieces, so I expect they go together differently based on what size frame you want.

Haha.........I think I was looking at the picture wrong. The bars that go out further are the head of the bed (or foot?) I thought they were the sides! haha Duh! I couldn't figure out why they only put them on one side.........

I'm not sure the wheels have locks either......but at that price, we can figure out how to keep them from rolling.

We have a laminate floor and it is not totally easy to move the bed. You really have to push or pull it.

Do you have locks on your wheels Sweetana?

Went upstairs and looked. No, they are kind of oval looking wood or plastic wheels with no locking mechanism. Remember the bed is heavy and the weight is distributed over the whole frame.

The other frame we have is an integrated frame with headboard and footboard. It has no wheels just large circle flat pad type feet.

Thanks sweetana........that makes me feel better if they don't have locks.
