We are moving soon!

I'm very happy that we are moving soon into our own home, (with mortgage ugh) soon. The closing date was set for the 29th but will be delayed a little longer. From the last home we owned we are downsizing but we have everything we need.

The yard was a concession since it is a little smaller than I'd like but since this will be our forever home, when we get older it will be more manageable for us. We will have well water and septic which is new for us.

Cannot wait to have a garden again!:)

Congrats! Like you said, as you get older you will appreciate the smaller yard.
If you have any questions about your well or septic, feel free to ask me. They are not without their maintenance and problems too. We just got our 3rd new pump recently and then had to chlorinate all the pipes in the house. Also, occasionally you have to have the septic cleaned out. I don't mean to discourage you..........its still all worth it!

Good for you! My former home also had a well and septic tank, but I was lucky for seven years and only had to make a few very minor repairs to it. But having it cleaned is worth it for peace of mind. Enjoy your new home!

Congrats Tussiemussies! Got any photos to share? I don't know much about septic tanks but there are products - including bleach like products and toilet bowl cleaners - that are safe for septic tanks. just look on the packaging of the product and it will say. I've seen some in Target pretty cheap. Also toilet paper will say "septic-safe" on it too. Rid-X (I think that's what it's called) is suppose to be good to keep things bio-degrading and breaking down on schedule, and to keep tree roots from clogging the tank. Getting it pumped out every few years (and inspected at the same time) is probably the best bet though. Some friends with a septic system diverted their gray water (everything except from the toilets) to a seperate system but that isn't legal is some areas and can cause problems in some septic systems due to lack of water in the tank.

Hi Spartana, yes, there are some things that we seem to keep finding that cannot go down a septic tank. DH sometimes uses watercolors and just found out acrylic and watercolors cannot go down. We knew latex paint was on the list too.

We are already buying the new brands of items we will need and I'll be making all homemade cleaners now. Having the septic is forcing us into more environmentally friendly habits.

That is a shame your friend couldn't divert the greywater, but I guess it is like a composting system that needs the environment to be just so.

No, don't have any pictures yet, we think we are closing next week, just waiting for the well water report to come in.
