"twas brillig...and the...slithy...toves..."
Ah yes, no one speaks like Cap't Kirk :-)! When I was a kid I was a HUGE fan of Mad Magazine (OK, so I'm still a fan). And one of the Mad Magazine stories was a saterical reading of Poe's "The Raven" as told by Don Martin - a goofy cartoon character. It was hillarious and very educational too. To this day I can not only "quote" "The Raven" from memory in it's entirety, but every time I envision it in a crazy Mad magazine satire. Maybe getting crazy cartoon characters to do more funny satires of great literary works will inspire more kids to read and learn. "Tonight, Masterpiece Theatre presents: Doctor Suess's remake of Romeo and Juliette as read by The Cat In The Hat".

Spartana: Oh, the joys of MAD Magazine! I consider MAD to have been my third parent; I read it from age 7 - 18, and then moved on to National Lampoon. It helped to make me the adult I am today, for better or for worse!
A favorite story: Went to the Boston Globe Book Festival as a kid with the family. Found a large hard-covered MAD book at one of the booths, and sat there reading it for the entire time I was there, until the vendor asked me if I would like to have it. One of the nicest acts of kindness from a stranger ever!
Redfox: Captain Kirk and poetry sounds like a scary combination!
He used to do Shakespeare, so circling back to poetry makes sense.
OK, you made me do this....

Ha! I knew there were other's out there who loved Mad magazine! Those quirky ticks and twitches give you away :-)! I spent the entire Grenada "war" on board my ship, sitting on my butt with my feet up on my .50 Caliber machine gun mount eating popcorn and reading many many old issues of Mad magazine. Got a medal for that - hardened war veteran that I am - Ha!!
Bae - Totally hilarious. What a talent and gift that William Shatner is :-)!

THAT explains it :-)!!!
1976 - Capt Kirk sings! Of course the most shocking part is that a magazine only cost 50 cents!!
