View Full Version : What areas (if any) do you score a D, when it comes to domesticities/frugality?

My D-score area, is changing-out/laundering dishtowels/dishcloths (regularly). I'm fairly certain I could never sell myself on adopting a daily change-out routine, but something in-between I'm thinking, where once/twice weekly would be the norm.

Another D-score area for me, washing-down and keeping dust-free, closet and pantry shelves.

I get an "A" or sometimes "B" in keeping flower beds neat and tidy.

The rest of it? I don't care.

"D" is for Dishes at our place. My sadly, non-eco friendly solution is paper plates & bowls. Now the dish pile is less daunting to tackle.

I get an "A" for my sock drawer. If my sock drawer is organized then I feel like all is right in the world, no matter how dusty or cluttered the rest of the apartment may be :)

Pretty much everything. Hate to clean- a waste of my life's energy. I do just enough to keep things relatively sanitary.

Well I do better at organization and cooking.

D- on baseboards
D on proper sit-down meals and making sure everyone eats something for breakfast
I get an A+ on changing out dishtowels and cloths. I'm very fearful of germs hiding in fabric so I probably go thru 4 dishcloths a day and 3 kitchen towels. We also only use cloth napkins so I do a load of kitchen and bath items every day.

Keeping the linen closet neat and organized. I go through about once every three of four months and reorganize it because it's gotten in such a disarray I can't find anything easliy. I keep extra bedding, towels, personal care items, and cleaning supplies on those shelves, so there is a lot to get misplaced. Just did it yesterday.... lets see how long this lasts. :|(

A D by whose standards? :)
Compared to my clutterbug friend whose house is a disaster (by my standards), my house is in tip-top condition.
Compared to my retired parents, where you could eat off any floor or other surface in the house any time of day, any day of the week, my house is dusty and cluttered.

By my standards, my house is usually just right. I do what needs to be done.

Ironing.
I hate it, which is why I pay my cleaner to do a couple of hours extra per week. She Loves ironing.

Keeping my desk clear. But I know exactly which pile everything is in!

Like Gregg in the post above, my lowest score is in keeping my desk clear, and I need to remedy the bad habit. Not having a clear horizontal space in my work area at home bugs me. I used to have this problem with the kitchen table and solved it, so I know I can solve the desk mess as well.

There are other areas of neglect in my housework, but they don't bug me so who cares. But the messy desk bugs me.

Iris Lily. I, too, fluctuate between an A-score/B-grade, related to all things gardening.

Dhiana. LOL! Love the "D is for dishes" mantra!

Herbgeek. Sounds like you've found a happy-balance, something that so many of us fail to reach. :)

Blackdog Lin. LMAO!

Float On. Well that does it, I'm going to have to pull-up my socks in the dishcloth/dishtowel department, then I can join the ranks of yourself, Catherine, and Awakenedsoul!

Artist. I think with closets, because they stay somewhat hidden (doors, etc), we homemakers tend to like to forget what lies behind those closed doors.

Tammy. Too bad we don't all live closer to each other, that way we could all take turns hosting dinner parties and luncheons.
Rosemary. http://doberman-chat.com/community/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/scratchhead.gif Never gave any thought over the standards of my grading. http://emoticoner.com/files/emoticons/smileys/teehee1-smiley.gif?1292867687 One day I'm going to find my happy-balance. I envy you happy-balancers! :)

Ishbel. That's alright, I was fully prepared to see less than perfect scores on this thread, and if anyone dared try, we would have had to ban-together and dirty-up their grade/score! :~)

Gregg. As far as I'm concerned, you've won the battle in being able to find anything/everything you need/are looking for/after!

Bootsie. You have the power! :)

D's for baseboards and putting laundry away. It's washed, hung up then dried or dried, folded and stalemate... Once a week I MAKE myself finish the drill, but it is a constant battle.

D's for baseboards.

and the baseboards just seem to never get done :|(

HomemadeChange. The D's you score yourself are rightfully earned. If there's one thing I remember from my past (babysitting at other peoples homes) was dirty laundry/unfolded laundry/clothes/laundry strewn everywhere!

As for baseboards, try getting into the habit of giving baseboards a once-going-over (once/twice each month) when washing/scrubbing floors, that way they never get out of hand.

JaneV2.0. Am I seeing a report card with straight D's? LOL!

Mrs-M-- Thanks I will try that. Do you use just a wet cloth, vinegar or some other cleaner?

(D)ishes. My solution right now I guess is to cook once a week (that does not include warming things up) thus generating no more dishes most days than what I eat with and a pan to warm things up. Yes that's how bad my dishes phobia has gotten, the cooking once a week isn't even to avoid cooking which I don't mind at all, it's entirely a strategy to avoid doing the dishes!

LOL, Jane!

HomemadeChange. I earn another D, for the store-bought cleaners I use. Shame on me! Should make my own, but I do scrub/wash floors the old-fashioned way, with bucket, cloth, and cleaner! On hands-and-knees, too! :)

D - for keeping the refrigerator and pantry cleaned and organized. Oh, well.

ApatheticNoMore. When our home was more hectic (babies, etc), I used to cherish my down-time after supper. I'd pour myself a cup of tea, light a cigarette, then park myself for a stretch (sometimes a longer stretch than I cared for), but I moved away from taking a break (after supper), before cleaning the kitchen up, because it was harder to get motivated after the meal settled and I had relaxed for a time.

That's OK, Gardenarian, you're in the midst of good company! :)
