They are so cool! And they started doing that calling to each other that sounds like monkeys.
Ahhhh.......thank you owls. Just what I needed.

We heard barred owls when camping in southern MN a couple years ago. Here at our house we hear great horned owls.

Haven't heard the owls here, lately, but we have heard both barred owls and great horned owls in the past. We have northern saw-whet owls in this area, too, but I've never heard them in the wild.

I would LOVE to have saw whet owls around here.
We heard great horned owls last summer too......such a soft sound. I think we were hearing a young one and its parent. The young one had a higher voice. They would follow each other around in the woods.
DS and I had a great time last summer in my golf cart, following the barred owls (3 of them) around the yard at dusk. Its amazing how quietly they fly.

Sometimes I can get them going by sounding like them.
