View Full Version : The Makers

We just watched this three hour docu about the Women's movement in the US. Being nearly 58, and a feminist since I was 14, I loved it. I also found this image that I am in, from the 1977 National Women's Conference, in Houston TX. If you click on the image, I have labeled myself, behind Bella Abzug.
Did you see the documentary?

Oh that's cool!
What great memories you must have!
I missed seeing the documentary, my DISH TV is temporarily down. I hope they replay it. Thanks for posting that picture - you're semi-famous!
Redfox, that is very cool. I really enjoyed the documentary. It brought back lots of memories. I listened to Bella Abzug speak in Seattle once. She was so great. The energy at the rallies and marches was incredible. It must have been wonderful to be there. I am concerned that we are going backwards again with the attacks on womens' reproductive rights, the fact women still make 75% of men's wages, etc.
It really annoys me when women like that Yahoo CEO say they are not feminists. Who could not be a feminist? Wikipedia definition: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FeminismFeminism is a collection of movements and ideologies aimed at defining, establishing, and defending equal political, economic, and social rights for women.[1][2] This includes seeking to establish equal opportunities for women in education and employment. She obviously doesn't remember when job classified ads were listed as "women's jobs" and "men's jobs". I doubt CEO was in the women's column.
