If you'd like to help with some real situations consider joining
ColdCases@yahoogroups.com

And also have a look at the missing people on
http://www.namus.gov/
or try to match some of the unidentified people with missing people. The site does have some computer search capabilities, but it helps to have a real person double check things. Recently someone was doing a double check and found a missing person and an unidentified person who bore a strong resemblance to each other. The computer would have ruled out the person based on height, but the missing person could not stand up straight and the unidentified person was, uh, not in the best shape to be measured accurately. So that possible match is being checked out.

Also if you work with the homeless in your area on a regular basis see if any of the missing look like a match.

And check that anyone missing in your area has been entered into NamUs with as much detail as possible.

Thanks for the heads up on the Yahoo group. www.websleuths.com is another community that deals with solving crimes and finding missing persons. Diligent volunteer sleuthing has closed out a number of cases.

If I had the time I'd love to become a sleuth!
