I finally finished this quilt for my daughter's wedding gift. The pattern is Jacob's Ladder and the fabric is by French General. It isn't perfect but I have found very little in life that is.

It is beautiful Florence.
OMG! So lovely, Florence! And already spread out on the grass for me to lay down on! The red crisscross background brings the quilt to life.
Lovely, Florence!!! I was learning how to stitch a quilt with a group of local ladies several decades ago and poked my finger drawing blood. I was so distressed at the drop of blood on the quilt but the leader stated that each quilt required some mark or drop of blood to show the love and care in the making of the quilt.
You have shown love and care that will embrace the family once they are married and using this work of art.
Razz, all my quilts have a couple of drops of blood and a bunch of cat hair--I can't keep them off it while I'm quilting so I've just learned to quilt around them!LOL!!
Think of the cat hair as exra batting.:D
It IS perfect! Perfect love, perfect beauty, perfect gift.

So beautiful and such a nice gift to give. You did such great work on this, I'm sure she will treasure it!
Nice strong graphics! Traditional or contemporary, good geometrics get me every time. Good work finishing.
That thing about leaving blood on your quilt? An old quilter's tip: your saliva will remove the stain pronto. But it has to be a match--you can't spit on someone else's blood and get the same result.

Florence,
i love it! Beautiful quilt! Thanks for sharing it! I've made quilts, though its been at least five years since I've quilted. I love thinking about the colors, fabric, and patterns!

Love the pattern and your color choices. She will treasure it.
Our guild's lecture last month was all the variations of this block. She made a lot of samples changing the colors to illustrate her points.
Beautiful! So glad you shared a photo.

That's pretty, I love cotton quilts.
One of my grandmothers made slap dash quilts using a lot of polyester. Ugh.
Love the Moda French General line of fabrics. Classy old world-looking designs. Good choice!
Love your color choices! Great job, I know that took hours and hours of work to complete :)

Nella the French General line acts like a fabric magnet to me!
Thank you everyone for your kind words. Quilting is more or less my substitute for therapy.

Florence, do you quilt by hand?
Florence, do you quilt by hand?
Yes. I used to do all the piecing of the top by hand as well as hand quilting. Recently, I have been piecing on the sewing machine and then doing the quilting by hand. I think machine pieced quilts hold up better over time and washing but they aren't as perfectly pieced and I don't think they are as soft as hand pieced.

That is unique that you did the quilt all by hand. It makes it even more special. I have heard of people praying the whole time they are creating something like this to infuse positive loving energy into the piece. Your price looks and sounds like it is infused with love.
Don't know much about the durability of either method.... Christine
