This was on NPR. I found it so sweet. I remember having this moment in my life very young also. My folks were no where near as understanding to say the least! It was a constant battle till I moved out of the house, they still think it is just a silly phase....I am 52. I remember being 5 and being told You will sit here till you eat that meat!

I have great parents. Yet how things such as these moments shape your life and are big to the small person. Yet how parents(I am one) can poo poo the event off or not take it to heart. I am always amazed at how some parents are so in tune and in touch. I am not sure I absorbed and respected all my sons moments. They are now in their 20s and I do now. I don't understand all of them, but I now respect their thoughts and choices. Never too late.
