View Full Version : Slang phrases from the 1920's
A fun list of 59 slang phrases from the 1920's that maybe we should use again. Some are still around, but most I only vaguely recognize from old movies.

I like to use old slang. Some I got from my grandmother are 'get a wiggle on' meaning hurry up, 'go outside and get the stink off ya' meaning go play for us a kids or just go away and 'cut a rug' meaning to dance.
Funny. I haven't heard any of those before except for makin' whoopie. Of course most seem to describe women and booze - ah the 1920's, when men were cake eaters, women were tomatoes and everyone was spiffilicated :-)
I've always been fond of "pissant." Used it just today.
Mmmmm, ripe tomatoes...
I've heard all you bimbos like your tomatoes ripe.

I always liked, "I love my wife, but oh you kid!"
