Today I got off my butt this morning and put new iris plants in the ground before the rains came. I got them in the ground just in time for pouring rain to start. Natural rainfall is so much better for them than blasts of water from a hose, and this saves me driving a hose down the hill.

Good thinking IL! I did 5 critiques yesterday for my two critique groups and worked on a new story. Mopped floors.

I walked through my house yesterday with 2 bags: paper bag for misc that can go into the recycle bin, and plastic bag for stuff that had to be garbage. In less than a hour both bags were filled- with just clutter, stuff that had no real home, basically unused, kept out of habit, I guess. It was So Nice to wake up to clear surfaces this morning!

Both at the end of the school year and the beginning of the school year, staff and teachers feel the need to declutter. While normally a good thing, they also trash tons of new or slightly used supplies. I got permission to take some of the stuff being trashed. Ended up with a huge box that just got mailed to a friend who will send it overseas for a school there. Stuff is out of my house without ending up in a landfill. Yay!

So after a year and a couple of months of watercoloring, I posted a picture with the story alongside it on my private FB watercolor group, and I was touched with the support and good advice from many members of the group. It's not that I feel I'm much closer to being an accomplished watercolor artist than when I started, but I do feel there's hope. It's a fun hobby. I'm becoming obsessed. If I see a brush I dropped on the floor from yesterday, I pick it up and I start twitching because I want to just paint something!

Here is the copied text and painting.

"Last month our neighbor brought us a bunch of garlic he had grown, and tied it to the handle of my husband's shed. It was such a thoughtful gesture, and the image was so beautiful, I took a picture--then thought I'd try painting it as a sketch.
When he came over one day I showed it to him and told him it wasn't done yet. I'm such a bad finisher I never went back to it, but he asked me about it the other day. I told him it still wasn't done.
I'd like to finish it now and give it to him as a gift. What do I need to do? I plan on adding more shade and depth to the handle and rope and touching up uneven areas in the shed and landscape. What else? Reference photo is on the right for comparison."

I think it's lovely and looks very accomplished to me, I can't imagine it being improved.
