What is that doing, measuring lead?

    You are such a killjoy.

In my old neighborhood, we used to joke that the lead paint held our houses together during the decades of neglect. don’t diss lead paint! Ha ha

Fiestaware was made for some time with a uranium-based glaze. It spices up your food a bit...

    The video shows the terror.

This is putting out about 15 millrems/day at a distance of one inch. So that'd expose you to 5475 millirems a year, if you held it to your lips for that long. The current federal occupational limit of exposure per year for an adult is "as low as reasonably achievable; however, not to exceed 5,000 millirems", so this slightly exceeds that.

Natural yearly background radiation amounts to ~620 millirems a year, for context.

We had Fiestaware. I think it was just the orange or maybe some brown glazes and they got onto it as a hazard somewhat early and changed the formula, although the details are vague.
